Description
Transposed and edited for violin from the viola/piano original. Luise A. Le Beau was a prolific yet overlooked 19th-century female composer. This third movement of her “Three Pieces” is a spirited polonaise with technical challenges for advancing violinists. These include crisp dotted-rhythm patterns and grace notes, high shifts, rapid cross-string arpeggios, and a short cadenza. Some fingerings have been added to this edition in the process of transposing to the violin. The piano part is even more virtuosic, and takes the lead over the violinist’s chordal arpeggios. A good stand-alone recital or encore piece, or can be performed in combination with the first and second movements, “Nachtstück” (Night Piece) and “Träumerei” (Dreaming) as a showcase for this under-represented composer.
